Communication Center Leaders (CCLs)
are neighbors who volunteer to be available 24/7 from their homes to
connect/link neighbors with emergency resources. A network of CCLs
exist in each of the MORE neighborhoods. These are front-line
participants available when other resources are not - evenings, weekends
and holidays. They intervene in threatened evictions, utility shutdowns,
homelessness, etc. They know what resources are available.
They can also supply emergency food vouchers or through the MORE computer
system put neighbors into touch with food pantries. They have even
intervened with utilities to work out payment schedules. CCL's in
the Patch neighborhood collaborate
with the area police. When on patrol, police utilize the CCLs to
assist community members in need after fire, domestic problems, etc.
Currently, there are over 100 CCLs at work within the Grace Hill MORE
System.
