Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform the duties as required to assist teaching staff in providing a safe, clean, healthy environment for the children in the center.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

• Assists Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate experiences and activities for children i.e. lesson plans and daily schedules.
• Consistently follows universal health precautions.  Assists classroom teacher with the routine care of the children to include responding appropriately to the physical, social, and emotional needs of the children.
• Assists classroom Teacher in keeping the classroom and equipment safe, neat, clean, and organized.
• Actively engages in professional development activities (formal education and pre and in-service training conducted or recommended by Agency).
• Handles classroom activities in the absence of the teacher on an as needed basis.
• Conducts daily health checks for each child and record observations.
• Organizes and participates in games, reads to children, and guides them in activities such as pre-literacy, music, and art.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

Requires a minimum of three credit hours in Early Childhood Education.  CDA preferred or successful completion within 24 months of hire date.

 Experience

Minimum of two (2) years previous experience in a child care setting. Desired fluency in the language spoken by the families served in the program.
