Job Description

 

Purpose of Position:

Perform the duties required to promote child wellness by providing nutrition services that supplement and complement those of the home and community in accordance with Head Start performance standards.

 

Role and Responsibilities: 

  1. Develop and distribute written materials regarding nutrition for children, parents, and staff.
  2. Design and deliver training to staff and parents
  3. Collaborate with community organizations to arrange ancillary training and services
  4. As needed, conduct site visits to monitor the environments and provide observations
  5. Provide the information and coordination necessary to link staff with appropriate community resources for family referral
  6. Provide consultation to Head Start staff regarding child/family nutrition
  7. Provide support and education to staff who are working with families/children experiencing nutrition issues
  • Develop policies and procedures for documenting nutrition assessments and interventions
  • Maintain records pertaining to food service
  • Prepare narrative and statistical reports as needed
  • Develop a system to ensure compliance with nutrition standards set by Head Start program
  1. Review menus and other related systems to ensure a high quality nutrition program
  2. Participate in the development and solicitation of bids for the food service vendor contract

Education Requirements:

 

Requires Bachelors Degree in Dietetics, Health Nutrition, or Nutrition

 

 Experience: 

Requires completion of a one year dietetic internship and one year experience counseling individuals and small groups.  Preference given to applicants with experience working in a community health center, school or head start setting.
