CO-CARE

Care Options for Children at Risk Everyday

CO-CARE is a parenting support program that promotes positive parenting and healthy childrearing practices through a non-threatening self-help approach.  The program provides parenting skills to neighbors from low-income Grace Hill served neighborhoods.  Parents are trained on children’s health, development and safety.  Classes are funded primarily Through United Way and held at the following sites:

*Water Tower; 314-340-3287; Roberta House is the Resident Trainer

*Patch; 314-638-0150; Niki Stringer is the Resident Trainer

*St. Charles; 636-940-0101; Annie Roland is the Resident Trainer

The Parents as Protectors course is funded through the Missouri Children’s Trust Fund and United Way.  Parents learn about child abuse and neglect issues that they can use in their family setting.  The participants are trained to protect their children from abuse and use new techniques to their children to protect themselves.

*Norhill, 314-382-0472 Simone Shelton and Tiana Lige

Child care provider classes are held annually during the summer for providers in the community to attain the 12 clock hours required by the State of Missouri.  The classes allow child care providers to attain current information and to network.  St. Louis area professionals teach various topics like Universal Precaution and Fire Safety.

*Water Tower; 314-340-3287; Coral Armour is the Resident Trainer

The Teen Mother Program provides parenting skills to 25 teenage mothers (19 years of age and younger) from low-income neighborhoods.  The program begins in July and the training is completed at the end of June the following year.  The teen mothers attend ‘baby showers’ every Wednesday for the first 3 months, then every other Wednesday for the rest of their training.  In January they begin support groups where they meet with former program graduates.  The training, called a ‘baby shower’, features child development games (and developmental gifts), a child development professional trainer, food, transportation and a nursery for the infant childcare.

*Water Tower; 314-340-3297; Donna Easiley is the Coach
