POSITION TITLE:                   Teacher  

 

REPORTS TO:                         Center Manager

 

STATUS/HOURS:                     Regular/Full-time                       

 

PAY GRADE:                           $ 23,213.00 - $ 31,406.00 Annually

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform the duties as required to assist in help provide a safe, clean, healthy, developmentally appropriate environment for the children in the center.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education:   Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development or related field or the capability of receiving an Associate’s Degree within one hundred and eighty (180) days of employment.

 

Experience:   Minimum of three (3) years experience working with children in a center-based child care setting.  Minimum of two (2) years supervisor experience.

 

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

 

1.       Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of child development, classroom and behavior management, and developmentally appropriate curriculum for children three (3), four (4), and five (5) years of age.

2.       Knowledge of planning and implementing curricular experiences and activities based on sound principles of child growth and development.

3.       Ability to work with diverse population. 

4.       Ability to comprehend the importance of parents as first teachers and be willing to partner with parents to ensure the success of the Head Start program.

5.       Must be able to supervise classroom assistants.

6.       Must be punctual and reliable.

7.       Computer literate with the ability to demonstrate basic computer skills.

 

Residency and Transportation Requirement:

Preference given to residents of Grace Hill service area

 

License(s)/Certification(s) Required

Must pass physical exam (including TB test)

Must pass required security checks (CAN screening, police check)

 

 

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

 

Essential Functions

 

1.       Nurtures the development of the children by responding to their developmental needs i.e. cognitive, social, emotional, and physical.

2.       Creates a classroom environment to promote developmentally appropriate practices for all young children as recommended by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Missouri standards.

3.       Participates in staffings when the development of IEP’s are required on children.

4.       Monitors developmental milestones of children for mastery and update lesson plans for further instruction.

5.       Partners with staff of other Head Start components (health, nutrition, disabilities, mental health, social services) to ensure full integration of all services.

6.       Consistently follows universal health precautions. Keeps assigned classroom and equipment safe, neat, clean, organized, and free from hazards and clutter.

7.       Encourages involvement of parents in classroom and center activity to reinforce learning activities at home. 

8.       Develops child appropriate schedules and lesson plans in alignment with the National Head Start Outcomes Framework, Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC and Missouri standards. 

9.       Plans individual and group activities to stimulate growth in discipline areas (math, science, literacy, social studies) and promote critical thinking and problem solving.

10.   Plans and conducts educational home visits and parent conferences to share center activities and children’s progress with parents.

11.   Completes all reports and records accurately and in a timely manner.

12.   Work as a member of a team to ensure smooth center operations and agency compliance.

13.  Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. Must be  willing to engage in professional development activities (continuing formal education and attending pre and in-service training sponsored or recommended by Agency)
