To provide direct services cost-effectively within the self-help
traditions of the Settlement House movement through community
organization;
To work for social change within society to foster greater support and
understanding of the disadvantaged;
To work in disadvantaged neighborhoods creating strong, healthy,
helping communities by encouraging and supporting neighbors as they
help themselves and others.
Grace
Hill’s philosophy is based on the belief that neighbors, no matter how
disadvantaged, provided the tools and resources, can not only help
themselves, but can help each other. Neighbors have both natural and
learned skills that can be formalized and enhanced. Grace Hill develops
and provides services through a “neighbors helping neighbors”
approach. What is particularly unique about Grace Hill, a collaboration of
two 95 plus year old agencies, settlement house and health care agency, is
that it not only utilizes its past: history, experience, and knowledge;
but it incorporates state of the art practices and technology. Together
these attributes promote and support service exchanges and increase the
scale of networking among neighbors. This in turn fosters community
development and social change that builds community and neighborhood
capacity. The all important web of community relationships is enriched.
